The quiz tool enables the creation and administration of online quizzes and surveys. It is versatile, supporting both graded and ungraded exams and assessments. Quizzes can feature a variety of question types, including multiple-choice, matching, and true/false, with the capability for automatic grading.
Canvas currently offers two platforms to create quizzes in, new and classic. Compare and contrast using this document. However, at this time we are moving towards migration of all classic quizzes to new.
Utilize New Quizzes if you want to:
Incorporate question types like Hotspot, Ordering, or Categorization.
Create stimulus content, such as a reading passage, graph, or image with related questions.
Set the total quiz points independently from the sum of the question points (e.g., a quiz worth 10 points with 17 questions, each valued at 1 point).
Enable the "Build on Last Attempt" feature.
Print the quiz or its answer key.
Enforce a waiting period between quiz attempts

Classic to New Quiz Migration Status:
With Canvas nearing the phase-out of Classic Quizzes, CFCC has begun migrating all quizzes to the new quiz engine. Our goal is to be exclusively using New Quizzes by Fall 2025. Starting in Fall 2024, the default quiz engine will be New Quizzes, though Classic Quizzes can still be temporarily enabled. We recommend migrating to New Quizzes at the beginning of the new semester using the course copy feature.
