This is the instructional website for my courses and instructional Activities at CCSF.  All of my active courses are conducted using the CCSF CANVAS course management system but, below you will find links to general and archival information related to my activities at CCSF.

About Me

I have been a full time instructor at CCSF for over 20 years.  Over that time I have taught many classes in the Biology department but my main focus has been on Physiology and Anatomy classes , having been one of the last graduates at the University of California at San Francisco to receive a PhD in Endocrinology.   My area of specific research interest Neuroendocrinology, and I spent years doing research on brain hormone interactions.  In particular, I am fascinated with the feedback loops between how the brain controls the adrenals and the hormones involved in stress,  I am interested in how these hormones are influenced by metabolism and daily rhythms in eating and activity.  This interest led me to develop an Introduction to Neuroscience course at CCSF which I co teach with Dr. Reyes when we are given the opportunity.

I believe in my students, the value of education, and that everyone has the right to the opportunities open access to learning and knowledge can provide.

Enrollment and Registration

Students looking to enroll in classes at CCSF are encouraged to check out the enrollment section of the CCSF website.

Traditionally many of the classes I teach are in high demand and the courses fill up quickly,  I have provided some information here that may be useful to you in your planning, if the class is full or you are looking to get on the wait list.  The wait lists at CCSF are dynamic and are managed electronically.  Prior to the class starting I have no control the adding of student to these lists or the order of names on these lists.  If you attempt to register for a class that is full and there is space on the wait list you should be given the option within the computerized registration system to add your name to a wait list.  If a student drops the class prior to the start of the semester the computer will automatically offer the space to the first person on the list, and they will have 48 hours to register.  If they successfully register for the available space. All students on the wait list will move up in order and a new space will open up on the list.  This happens continually and dynamically before the start of the semester.

Your best chances to obtain a space in class are to get your name on this list by attempting to register for the class and opting on to the wait list function.  If you do not get a space on the wait list because it is full, I suggest you check back again as the movement on the list dynamically moves and a single space may show up when a wait listed student registers for the class.

At the start of the semester, if there are any available spaces due to students registering but not showing up on the first day of class.  I will make those spaces available to students who are on the wait list and are present at the first meeting of the laboratory section of the class.  In this way over the last few semesters,  I have been able to accommodate most student on the wait list who show up to add the class.  Any students who just show up or contact me on the first day of class will be given priority behind the students on the wait list and based on their registration appointments.

So you best option is to get onto the computerized wait list function.  As I mentioned I have no control of the management of this list so if you have technical questions, please contact Admissions and Records.

I hope this information helps in your academic planning.

Current Course information

Spring 2024

Over the last few years due to demand I have been teaching BIO 108 General to Human Anatomy at CCSF.  My sections of this course are currently being offered in a hybrid format where the lecture materials are managed and delivered through the CANVAS course management system.  The Laboratory Sections of this course will meet every week in person in order to gain access to the materials and experiences that we can only offer in the lab.

In  the Spring of 2024 I will be teaching four hybrid lab sections of BIO 108: General Human Anatomy.   The laboratory part of this class will meet in person on the Ocean Campus at the times listed in the class schedule.  The content that is traditionally covered in a lecture format will be delivered asynchronously on Canvas.  There will be oportunites to participate in synchronous and asynchronous online review sessions for the course content and we will be using multiple online communication tools for staying connected as a class, but the weekly 3 hour lab will be in person, and attendance in lab at the time you are registered for is required for success in the class.   Students enrolled in this class will be expected to log into the CANVAS system to access additional course materials and use it to communicate with your instructor, and classmates and to turn in materials and assignments, including periodic synchronous online exams.   Below is posted the course syllabus for Spring.

If this is the first time you have used the Canvas course management system, you may have some questions about how things work. Be sure to check out the CCSF Online Course Support Center for more information.  To find resources, see the Canvas Student Guideor call the Canvas Support Hotline anytime: 844-592-2198.

Archival Instructional Websites

Before the transition to the CANVAS learning Management System my class materials were posted on traditional websites.  I have provided links below to these archival sites below:

Back in 2017 I had to opportunity to visit many other Community Colleges during a travel Sabbatical the details and notes on that trip can be found on my 2017 Travel Sabbatical Website.
