I want to connect with you! For students enrolled in my classes, I hold regular drop-in Get Stuff Done sessions (which can be used as visiting and office hours to meet one-on-one or in a group with me).
We can also schedule one-on-one meetings at other times to ensure you can make it. If you'd like to set up a phone appointment, a video conference, a chat, or other communication, send me three times that work for you, and I'll let you know which one of them works for me.
Students in my classes can always text me or leave a message. I love communicating with you! I'll respond to your messages as quickly as I can, generally within 24 hours; on weekends and holidays, it may take a bit longer. (If you don't hear back from me in 48 hours, assume I did not receive your message and please resend it.)
Spring 2024
Hello there! Thanks for being curious about courses I'm teaching.
If you are a current or could-be CCSF student, or a former CCSF student looking to catch up and reconnect, reach out! I want to hear from you. I'm happy to answer questions about my courses: please start with the "courses" menu at the top of this page for an overview.
I usually try to warn new students that I am something of a weird teacher. I make you do things like draw in class, for instance—not for "art," but for thinking and remembering and communicating. (So no, you don't need to be an artist: stick figures count!) I ask you to reflect on a lot of things (how did that go? what do you think that means about next time?) because I believe that's where a lot of the long-term learning happens. And I think we learn a lot from the mistakes and missteps we make and take, so I don't use a traditional grading system and I give you a lot of chances to make things work. In short, I try to teach you a lot of 'traditional' academic and communication skills in non-traditional ways. And if you join our class, I expect you and your classmates to participate together in a lot of collaborative work and community-tending: I want you to learn at least as much from each other as you do from me and the rest of our class team (our tutor and librarian).
