At the conclusion of this Skillshop, participants will have a basic understanding of:

  • The six C's of resume writing

  • The sections commonly included on a standard resume

    • How to set up a resume heading with your name and contact information

    • How to include your Hilbert degree and other degrees (if applicable)

    • How to include relevant coursework on your resume

    • How to include work, volunteer, service-learning, and club experience

    • How to include skills, such as computer skills and languages

  • The essential information that should be included in each section

  • Formating tools including, spacing; tab stops; and bold, italics, and underline

  • Who can be used as a professional reference

  • How to write a references page separate from your resume

  • The purpose of a cover letter

  • How to format a cover letter

  • What should be included in a cover letter

  • The paragraph structure of a cover letter

  • Where to find additional resources

Interview Preparation Skillshop

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this skillshop, participants will have a basic understanding of:

  • Pre-interview research and preparation

  • What to bring to a job interview

  • How to access the interview preparation resources located within our Blackboard Organization

  • How to create an account and access the My Interview Practice tool

  • Steps to take to have a less stressful interview day

  • How to follow up after an interview

  • When it is appropriate to send an email thank you vs. a handwritten thank you note

  • How to appear professional during a virtual interview

At the conclusion of this skillshop, participants will have a basic understanding of:

  • Questions to consider when thinking about applying/attending graduate school

  • Steps to take to find a program and institution that is a good fit for you

  • How to use the U.S. News and World Report Graduate School Search tool

  • Common pieces of a graduate school application

    • Letters of recommendation

    • Admissions exams

    • Application essay(s)

    • Your resume
