Kareem Badr

About Me:

Hello! I am Kareem Badr, a graduate student at Adelphi University completing the NYC Teaching Fellows program and a Biology 7-12 teacher currently teaching summer school in the NYC Public School system.

My path to teaching wasn't a straight line through the sciences..it ran through competitive gaming. I spent years building and leading collegiate esports programs, most notably as Director of Esports at Governors State University, where I built the program from scratch and led teams to championship results across NACE, NECC, CFGC, and ECAC conferences. Through all of that, I discovered that what energized me most wasn't the competition itself, but coaching, building young people up, giving them structure, and helping them find their own drive to excel. That realization led me to the NYC Teaching Fellows Program, where I now bring that same coaching mindset into the Biology classroom.

 When I'm not teaching or studying, you'll usually find me playing Deadlock (currently Ascendant 3) or diving into fighting games. The same competitive spaces shaped my career and still keep me sharp. I hold an MBA from Siena Heights University, following undergraduate study at Lourdes University. Nothing is more rewarding to me than building positive relationships with my students, whether that's in the classroom, on a competitive stage, or in life.

At Adelphi, we focus on cultivating meaningful learning through "making," and there is no better way to become an expert in fulfilling this strategy than by becoming a "maker" yourself. This portfolio contains the projects and assignments completed as a graduate student at Adelphi, along with reflections on how each can be used to teach science in the classroom.
