This session will provide you with the tips and strategies you need to align your program with MSA's five pillars of excellence in order to achieve national certification. Come to this session to hear about the certification journey from the lead teachers of Dent Middle School and Kelly Mill Middle School, two nationally certified magnet schools in Richland School District Two.
Pam Bruney
Magnet Lead Teacher, Kelly Mill Middle INC. Magnet Program, Richland School District Two, SCPam Bruney was born and raised in Columbia, SC and received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in elementary education from the University of South Carolina.She received her National Board Certification in Early Adolescent English Language Arts in 2003, and earned recertification in 2013. Mrs. Bruney has been involved with the Kelly Mill Middle, INC. Magnet Program since its inception, first as the 7th grade language arts teacher, and for the past five years as the lead teacher. She is proud to say that she has worked with every cohort of students that has matriculated through the INC. Magnet Program!
Martha Walker
Magnet Lead Teacher, Two Academies at Dent Middle School, Richland School District Two, SCMartha Walker was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Middle Level Education from the University of South Carolina and a Master's Degree in Divergent Learning from Columbia College. She started teaching Language Arts at Dent Middle School in 2009. This is her fifth year as Lead Teacher of the TWO Academies Single Gender Magnet Program.
Marc Turner
Magnet Lead Teacher, The Learning Collaborative at Dent Middle School, Richland School District Two, SCMr. Turner is the lead teacher of TLC. He is a social studies teacher by training, but has a diverse set of interests that go beyond history and politics. He received his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations & History from Boston University. He has a MAT in History from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Turner earned recertification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2010. This is his seventh year as lead teacher of The Learning Collaborative.
