All Magnet students participate in at least one accelerated class such as an AP, dual enrollment, or honors level course. From engineering computer science, and robotics to agriculture, electrician training, and health science, students can choose a STEM course of study that appeals to their interests. In the engineering pathway, we offer the curriculum design by LSU where students can earn a silver seal on their diploma in as little as four classes or a gold seal in as little as eight. Our newest STEM endeavor takes students sky high into the world of drones. Students study FAA flight regulations and test to receive a remote pilot license. Students are also challenged weekly to perfect their skills with aerial maneuvers, hone their skills for use in various career fields, and edit aerial footage for digital media purposes. Our robotics program was also designed through an LSU partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education. Students design, build, and encode robots with hands-on activities geared towards creating solutions or utilizing their newly learned skills in the workforce for STEM careers.
Our academic focus is centered on the four main core subject areas. In junior and senior years Woodlawn High paired with LSU to complete the Math, English, and History freshman requirements. Students interested in the arts or talented programs are provided with a multitude of options in our varying levels of visual, musical, and performance art programs.
