Reading Skill/Strategy: main idea and details, summarizing

Whole Group Text: Mistakes That Worked This is one title of the several sets of class picture books that we will be using this year.

Grammar: complete sentences, run-ons, fragments

Spelling: Spelling words with suffix -ful and vocabulary words, S/V Menu due Friday

Writing: six-word memoirs and writing process, memoirs are due 10/1

40 Book Challenge Letters: Read 30 minutes/night, no letters due this week.

World Cultures: 50 States Slide Show Project due 11/30

Tests: Friday we will test spelling/vocabulary, grammar, and Mistakes That Worked.

- On Oct. 31 at 10 we will be having a variety/talent show where staff and other community members will be performing for our students. If you have a special talent you would like to share with our students in a whole school assembly please contact our School Counselor, Mrs. Keys, at nkeys@madisonschools.k12.va.us.

-Cornhole Tournament (see attached flyer)

-Book Fair Sept. 18th-26th: The book fair will be held in the library this year, and students will visit the book fair during their regular library rotation. The book fair will also be open during parent teacher conferences.

-Silent Auction Gift Baskets: The PTO is doing the silent auction of gift baskets again this year. The auction will take place on Sept. 26 at P/T Conference Night and Book Fair. They are asking that each of us ask parents for items to be included in our class' theme basket. Items should be sent in no later than Sept. 24 and the PTO will create a basket to be auctioned. -The PTO is also doing a loose change drive. There are containers in our classrooms.

-Please return Autumn Care Permission forms. We will be visiting on Sept. 19th

-Please return Washington D.C field trip permission forms and money. The trip is planned for Nov. 8th.
