Integrative STEM 8, or iSTEM8, is a two-marking period elective course offered to all 8th graders. iSTEM8 will allow for students to apply the skills and abilities that they have obtained in previous STEM courses through the development of a capstone project in the STEM fields. Students in iSTEM8 will determine a real-world problem within the STEM fields that is affecting a population of people or animals in the world. Working in groups, students will research, design, and develop a solution to their problem using a variety of software, processing machinery, and prototyping equipment. Students will then have the opportunity to present their solutions to a panel of experts at the end of the course. iSTEM8 will act as a foundation for higher level courses students may choose to take in high school.
