Year 2: Student Reading From Their Stories They Have Written As Part Of the PBL Project.
MECHS had worked together as a school on PBL projects for a few years before moving to CBL projects.
Year 1: Our first PBL had more of a team approach between classes. Each team had a project they worked on together. One project included a Mock Election combining skills learned in English and Social Studies. Another project included building and developing a flashlight using math and science skills.
Year 2: We decided to join the entire school in a PBL that highlighted our Appalachian culture. We teamed with local authors and other community members to develop native gardens, artwork, Appalachian music, folklore, and craftsmanship using local techniques and traditions.
Year 3: Due to our relationship with a school in Denmark, we wanted to use this year as a way to show how our local Appalachia compares and contrasts with other cultures worldwide. Our students developed kits, or boxes, that included information about each country available for the community to use and explore. These kits were designed to help our community form a better understanding of our world and inspire people to understand different cultures and possibly visit those areas.
