Have you ever wondered how the game Undertale influenced the gamers of today?
To start, Undertale by Toby Fox is an indie game that became popular around the 2010’s. It is known and loved for its amazing story-telling, quirky characters, and eccentric community.
This is the game that has influenced a generation of gamers.
Undertale inspires its community to think about things in a new light.
In an article by Ana Diaz, she states, “Playing Undertale changed how I think about games.”
Diaz said it made her think about how she used violence in Undertale. This then led her to think about how she used violence in other games as well.
“Why was [violence] the de facto way of making my way through so many worlds?” she questioned.
This shows that Undertale changes your mindset in games, but it also changes the way I and others think outside of games.
Undertale makes people think about how you play video games in a whole new light.
In the article “Undertale: A Unique Brand of Fame,” the author talks about how the game remains the violent action players have taken.
“...even if the player tries to relieve their conscience by completing a pacifist run after doing the genocide route, they are met with a brutally defaced photo in the ending,” it says. “Undertale remembers, and that fourth wall breaking in itself was already enough for it to leave a strong impression on most casual gamers.”
This proves that Undertale makes you think differently, by using unique tactics like fourth wall breaking, hidden dialog, and flavor text.
This makes Undertale a entirely new experience that helps change your outlook on playing video games.
Undertale makes you feel conscious about the violence and harm you do in video games.
In an article by Joel Couture, he states, “Fox asks us to question ourselves and the violence we commit in RPGs with Undertale. He does so by making the violence completely optional, asking that the player make a conscious choice to do harm.”
This statement proves that Undertale makes us rethink our choices even in simple things like video games.
This proves the point of Undertale by Toby Fox changed the way many gamers think. This topic is important because it shows people’s empathy when given a choice between kindness and violence.
