As the holiday of lovers approaches us, some people may feel the need to immerse themselves in literature and film that reflects their heart’s deepest desires.
These rom-com novels, movies, and tv shows are hand-picked by our most romantic newspaper staff.
My personal favorite novel may have a cringy title, but the plot and characters are very well written and will keep you captivated.
The Quantum Weirdness of the Almost-Kiss by Amy Noelle Parks is about Caleb and Evie, who are studying quantum physics together. Over the past several years, Caleb has had several “almost-kisses” with Evie. Will his love for Evie bloom into something they can both cherish together?
Another one of my personal favorites is Give Me a Sign by Anna Sortino, which follows the story of Lilah, a hard-of-hearing teen who goes to a deaf summer camp and finds not just herself, but also a romance.
One more of my favorite series, which is also a movie trilogy, is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han.
Lara Jean, a hopeless romantic, loves writing letters. She writes letters to all of the boys that she's loved before, and stores them in a letterbox. One day, all of the letters get mailed out to the boys!
Her nonexistent love life goes into overdrive, and suddenly she finds herself in a fake relationship with one of the boys. This story is captivating, and the characters pop right off the pages and the big screen.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (classic, slightly more advanced but classic love story)
Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer (fantasy romance, vampires and love!!)
Something More by Jackie Khalilieh
The Prince and the Apocalypse by Kara McDowell
10 Things I Hate About You (movie - modern interpretation of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew)
The Summer I Turned Pretty (TV show and trilogy!!)
Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter
Love and Other Great Expectations by Becky Dean
