Digital Illustration Design Process
By: Hailee L.
Inspiration: Twice in 2024 I had the opportunity to observe the Aurora Borealis. This was the inspiration for my 2025 Digital Illustration artwork.
Tools: iArtbook
Creative Process: I chose my colors wisely for my night sky from memory. After creating my Aurora Borealis and night sky, I used the white speck font in different sizes to create realistic stars. I then created my constellation of Cancer. I did some research on telescopes and found the perfect silhouette, and freehanded it.

Digital Illustration Design Process

Inspiration: My inspiration esteemed from images and drawings of Orchid praying mantises with magical samurai warrior visuals. The orchid praying mantis appealed to me as a symbol of courageous, fearless and serene warrior.
Tools: I started my drawing using SketchPad, but I decided to change to Kleki because I was having an issue with SketchPad. The tools that I used were the Pen Brush and the Paint Bucket.
Creative Process: My creative process started by looking at different images of mythical real life animals and creatures. I decided on an Orchid Praying Mantis as my art piece because it makes me think of a Japanese warrior. When I got the base/sketch on, I colored it green, pink and white because these colors represent peace. I added shading to make the drawing look 3D. Finally, when I was done I searched for Japanese words that referred to peace, and that's what I named my Digital Illustration.
