Are references mandatory on a resume?

• Although references are standard on job applications, do NOT include references on a resume unless you are asked to do so.

• If asked, clarify if the employer wants you to include your references in your resume (at the bottom) or on a separate sheet of paper (see right).

Information to include

• Your reference's name

• Their position title (e.g., manager, teacher, coach, etc.)

• Their phone number

• Their email address

• Your relationship to the reference (former boss, former teacher, current coach, etc.)
