My artwork is an appropriation of the Orante icon, turned into a contemporary Queen of Hearts playing card. To Mary, this title is fitting, as she is like the Queen of Christianity. In the original card, the Queen holds a flower. In my artwork, Mary holds a white lily to signify purity. On a King playing card, the king typically has curled hair. In my artwork Jesus' hair is curled to signify he will one day be king.
