Ana Smith

Artist biography

Ana Smith (b. 1999) is a white settler living and making art on Treaty 6 territory. They will be graduating from MacEwan University with a diploma in Fine Art in the spring of 2021. Ana was mentored by Emily Davidson through the Mitchell Art Gallery in the summer of 2020. Ana is a recipient of the Edmonton Arts Council's 2020 Equity and Access Grant and was selected for SNAP gallery’s community postering project.

Artist statement

Ana works primarily in printmaking, zines and textiles. They use the visual language of cartoons and comics to work through their own questions and ideas of trans experience. They hope to disrupt the model of binary sex and gender by articulating bodies and biology as malleable and fluid.
