Artist statement

Gracie’s work is inspired by information and concepts in the fields of biology, mycology, and botany, as well as aesthetics from the Victorian era, cottagecore, and those found in nature. Gracie applies these concepts and aesthetics into artworks that showcase the beauty, processes, details, and mysteries of the natural world, in addition to raising questions about human’s relationship to the world and other living things around them. Working with a variety of modes, including illustration, quilting, sewing, embroidery, video and installation, her works evoke a sense of beauty and gentleness that both contrast and compliment the themes explored in her works.
