Hannah Ferguson

Artist biography

Hannah is a nineteen year old aspiring comic book and animation artist. When she is not busy with school, she is spending her time drawing fantasy characters, watching TV shows and movies, or playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Over the past year, she has developed a big interest in creating her own original story. She and her best friend have been working on developing their own original fantasy setting, so that one day they can create a comic together. She hopes as well that she can share these ideas with a wider audience. For now, she wants to focus on creating the setting and developing a world.

Artist statement

Hannah is a disabled artist located in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (so-called Edmonton). She is currently finishing her Fine Arts Diploma at MacEwan University. After she has completed her time at MacEwan University, she intends to go to Vancouver to pursue more education in animation and comic creation.

Hannah primarily works in digital artwork. She uses that to create gifs, digital illustrations, animations, and comics. Through these different forms of digital media, she creates artwork about her mental illness and disability. These are important issues to her because she wants to educate people on these two topics and share her experiences with the people who are viewing her art. Also, by communicating these topics through gifs, digital illustrations, animation, and comics, she attempts to make the issues easier to understand. She wants to make it approachable for her audience and for them to come out learning something new each time they view her work.

Hannah also has a passion for storytelling and wants to someday create a comic or animated story. She has been working on a collaborative project to develop a children’s fantasy picture book. She has also been working on creating her comic with an original setting and characters. She one day wishes to share these stories with a broader audience to hopefully inspire others and spread hopeful messages into the world.
