Elizabeth Carr

Artist biography

I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and have been very fortunate to have traveled to many places in the world. These cultural experiences have often influenced my work. Art has always been in my life because growing up that's what I was taught and fell in love with. I'm very interested by the ideas surrounding memory and family dynamics. I try to understand how humanity and myself in particular remember parts of their lives, as well as how family dynamics structure and impact how people interact and experience the world.

Artist statement

I am a 19 year old disabled, indigenous artist based in Edmonton, Alberta. I work in many different mediums including but not limited to performance, painting, textiles, and video. My work deals with many themes of anxiety, depression, femininity, family, and memory. Many of my works instill a sense of nostalgia and familiarity for the viewer. I'm always excited for opportunities to lead creative workshops whenever they arise. In 2016, I was awarded the Audrey Campin award for Fine Arts by my school of the time. I am currently working to get my diploma in Fine Arts from MacEwan University and will be graduating in 2021.
