Artist statement

Aminata's work revolves around her lived experiences as a black woman living in Canada. Her medium mainly focuses on collage, sculptures, drawings and videos. However, Aminata’s journey with new mediums is still in play. She considers herself to be a poet and a fighter when dealing with social issues. Her vulnerability within her work makes it personal, allowing her viewers to walk in her shoes and view the world as she sees it.

As an African-Canadian, she speaks out against society's systemic racism towards black people and body image struggles as a female. Aminata enjoys exploring her culture, religion, and traditional food within her work to create beautiful yet confrontational messages for her audiences.
