A street contains many worlds: cuisines, businesses, homes, murals, spontaneous and unexpected interactions, moods, histories. The Mission District in San Francisco has decades of fame as a vibrant, multicultural space-- but the street itself starts near the ferry building and passes through many microclimates before arriving in its eponymous neighborhood. We will meet at MA at 10:45 am, drive to the Larkspur Ferry, and take the boat into the city, where we'll begin our urban hike. We'll be back at MA by 5 pm. Cost of lunch and ferry fare included in the trip-- if you want to get other snacks or buy books or crafts or other things from shops we pass on our way, bring your own funds!

From 1969-1971, indigenous people from many tribal and cultural backgrounds occupied Alcatraz. In remembrance of that occupation, in questioning of mainstream US practices around "Thanksgiving," and in celebration of the persistence and resilience of Indigenous people and their traditions and relationship with the land, every year people gather on Alcatraz to witness ceremonies, speakers, dances, and other performances as the sun comes up. We will meet at MA at 4am, drive to Pier 33 in San Francisco, and get the ferry to Alcatraz. We'll return by 10 am.
*This yearly event got canceled last year because of COVID. It's not yet confirmed that it will occur this year, but we're opening sign-ups just in case!

Here’s another run for those among us who think, “I definitely would go on a run if someone else was going.” Let us plan the details for you! ;)
Join Ellie and Rachel for a trip up to Bon Tempe Lake in Fairfax. The trail around the reservoir is about 4 miles and features a relatively flat but scenic journey through bay laurel, redwoods, wide-open fields, and narrow single-track sections. Any level of runner is welcome. Some of us will run ~10-minute miles, some of us will stop a few times to walk, and we can all enjoy a morning out in the beautiful open space of the Marin Municipal Water District. If our group has interest and experience, we can add a spur to our route to make the run a little longer. We will leave MA at 2:30 pm, drive about 25 minutes to the trailhead, run, have a snack, and return to school in time to catch the bus.
