Augmented Reality is an immersive technology often used as a tool for video games and learning. A lesser known aspect of AR's applications is it's involvement in the public health space. In recent years, VR/AR has been used to treat all sorts of issues including eating disorders, PTSD, elderly fall risk, and more.
I am currently collaborating with Illinois Tech's Mark Miller to conduct a behavioral research trial regarding augmented reality's effect on cognitive load and spatial awareness. Using Meta's Quest 3 to measure participants unintentional interaction with a cluttered workspace while in a mixed reality environemnt, we will be able to identify important areas for growth and improvment in the expanding world of VR/AR as well as help treatment facilities make informed decisions about therapy protocols.
