"The Battle of Saratoga Springs"
Documentary-Process
When searching for a topic for our documentary, we wanted to highlight local Lyon County history. Through our research, we discovered that one of the very first "skirmishes" of the Civil War in Western Kentucky occurred within a few miles of our school. We wanted to bring this piece of history to the public's attention. We gathered our research from https://history.ky.gov/markers/the-battle-of-saratogasaratoga-united-methodist-church, and the historical marker that is at Saratoga Springs Methodist Church before traveling to the church to film and take pictures.
To film this project, we used "Mini Mic Pro Wireless Microphones" purchased from Amazon to record the audio. There is a busy road directly across the street from the church, so we used these microphones to try and minimize any background noises. To take the best quality pictures, we used a Canon EOS 1200 D camera with a Canon 18-55 mm lens. We had no experience using this type of camera before, so our teacher trained us in how to use this camera. To film the video, we used an Apple IPhone 14 Pro Max.
To edit this video, we uploaded all pictures and video to a shared Google Drive. We used an Apple IMac with IMovie to create the video. None of us had ever used an IMac before, so we had to be trained by our teacher. Nobody (not even our teacher), had used IMovie before. We watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube, in order to teach ourselves what we needed to know to create this documentary. The music used in the video are fife and drum renditions of "Yankee Doodle" and "Frog in the Well." Both of these songs are found in the public domain, and do not have any copyright restrictions. This project was fun to put together, and we definitely gained some new technology skills along the way.
We hope you enjoy watching this documentary as much as we enjoyed making it!
