Welcome to the ELD/ Intervention Program!

ELD/ Intervention Program Information:

Welcome to the ELD/Intervention Program!

My name is Mrs. Rachel McKagan and I feel so lucky to be a teacher here at Yerba Buena!

My role at school is twofold:

1. ELD (English Language Development)-- I help students enhance and improve their knowledge of English if this is not their native language.

Students come to my classroom to receive extra support if it is needed, and we work on communication, conversation, and understanding the specific academic language used in school.

2. Intervention-- I help students who may be struggling in reading and math, even if English is their main language.

I meet with students identified by their classroom teacher, in a small group setting, multiple times per week to work on reading and math fundamentals. I keep specific data on each student to track growth throughout the year.

ABOUT ME:

I earned my BA in English, my Teaching Credential, and my Master's Degree in Education-- all from UCLA.

I have been with LVUSD for the past 19 years and I absolutely love it! My husband, Matt, was also a teacher in the district and was the band director at Lindero Canyon Middle School for 33 years before retiring in 2023. We have two children- Andrew (28), a USC graduate, and Sarah (25) who graduated from UCLA and is a first-grade teacher in Moorpark.

I look forward to seeing all of our awesome families around campus!

Be well,
