Ms. Wu's Math Class

Secret of Success

I’ve often been asked, “How can I get a better grade in Math?”

The easiest solution is to complete EVERY homework assignment and turn it in on time.

When I say “complete,” this means taking time to complete EVERY question, checking your answers against the solution guide, then taking the time to figure out the more difficult problems.  If the problem does not make sense (even with the solution guide) try finding me at CAT, asking me in class the next day or set up a lunch appointment.

If you are absent, try checking the class calendar or calling a friend to get the assignment.  Then, flip back one or two pages and the lesson you missed is right in the book (read it and complete the homework before coming back to class – using the provided solution guide).

If your parents are willing, ask them to quiz you on the example problems in the book nightly (flip back one or two pages from the page the homework was on).

Secondly, take notes and do the practice during lessons in class; use them to help you study before a test.  (Yes, actually taking time out to study before a test really helps!)  Active engagement rather than being a passive learner will ensure that you understand the material to a larger degree. Use the examples from your notes to quiz yourself again right before a test.  Often, the test questions look very similar to the ones we practice in class.

Also if possible, having an organized notebook with all your materials (2 sharpened pencils, one grading pen, a notebook for taking notes and enough loose-leaf paper for homework) ready to go on a daily basis really helps. If you are in need of supplies, kindly find me at lunch so I can take care of you. Finally, remember to use the bathroom between breaks so you can be focused during class and not miss any important information.

So, in short, your grade is directly linked to the amount of effort you are willing to put into the class.
