Society
Application Periods for 2022-2023
Student membership in Honor Society or CJSF is based on their academic performance in middle school. Students MUST apply for membership each semester during the pre-determined application time period (however 6th graders won't apply until their first semester has been completed). The criteria for qualifying for are listed in the white section below.
NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR MEMBERSHIPS OR TRIPS!!
Fall Online Membership Drive (7th and 8th): August 26 – September 2, 2022. All applications due 9/2/22 by 4:00 pm. Membership is required for both the upcoming Catalina and Yosemite trips.
Spring Online Membership Drive (all grades): February 3-10, 2023. All applications due 2/10/2023 by 4:00 pm.

Hard copies of trip applications/documents will be available in the Counseling Office
during the applicable application periods.
8TH Grade NATURE BRIDGE, YOSEMITE: Trip dates: October 9-14; cost $1,100 (Application period: 9/7 - 9/14 at 3:30pm)
7TH Grade Catalina Island: Trip dates: November 7 -9; cost $515 (Application period: 9/6 - 9/12 at 4pm)
6TH Grade ASTROCAMP: Trip Dates: March 15-17; cost $500 (Application period: 2/14-2/17 at 4 pm)*
*APPLICATIONS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE ON 2/14, in the Main Office or the Attendance Counter*

CJSF/Honor Society Application Information:
AC Stelle is a member of the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF). In order to conform with their bylaws membership qualifications are as follows;
Grades earned in 6th grade will qualify students for eligibility in 6th Grade Honor Society. Grades earned in 7th and 8th grade will qualify students for eligibility in CJSF. Membership qualifications and requirements for Honor Society and CJSF are the same.
Requirements for 6th Grade Honor Society and 7/8 Grade CJSF Membership.
It is a MANDATORY requirement for students to apply each semester for membership, during the application acceptance period.
Honor Society points are granted as follows:
A = 3 points*
B = 1 point *
C = 0 points
Students must earn a total of 8 points from the following subjects in the previous semester: Language Arts, Social Science, Mathematics, and Science.
7th & 8th Grade Students enrolled in a Foreign Language must earn a total of 10 points for membership.
No points are earned for PE, remedial, or repeated courses, Electives (other than foreign language taken in 7th or 8th grade).
A grade of "D" or "F" in any class bars a student from membership.
Behavior and citizenship grades must be maintained as satisfactory or better in all classes. Students must maintain a minimum of 97 behavior points as well as have No "N"s or "U"s in any class.
*Honors courses may earn 1 extra point per "A" or "B" not to exceed a total of 2 points extra!
Students must reapply each semester.
Students qualifying for and becoming members of CJSF based on their end-of-semester grades from at least three of the following four semesters** will be eligible to culminate with honors from 8th grade.

**Please note that any grades earned in the sixth grade do not count towards culminating with honors.

CJSF/Honor Society Trips
This CJSF/Honor Society is coordinated by Ashley Steele (fall) and Katie Kargari (spring). The eighth grade CJSF students have the option to travel to Yosemite National Park. Nature Bridge runs the programs and the students also participate in a service component during their stay. The seventh grade CJSF students have the opportunity to participate in a 2 night 3 day trip to Catalina Island. The program run by Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) allows the students opportunities to snorkel, hike and attend sessions on marine biology. The sixth grade Honor Society students will also have the opportunity to attend Astrocamp. This program is based on astronomy, physics and other related fields.

Trip Application Periods for 2022-2023
Student participation in any Honor Society or CJSF trip is based upon their membership in Honor Society or CJSF. Students MUST apply for AND qualify for membership each semester during the pre-determined application time period (however 6th graders won't apply until their first semester has been completed). For trips, there are parent (informational) and student (registration and medical, roommate selection, supply list) meetings that must be attended.

Trip Application for Yosemite hard copy and online form (8th): Trip dates: October 9-14/$1100. All applications are due by 3:30 PM on September 14. No late applications will be accepted. Applications will be available in the Counseling Office - they will be turned in there as well. FEES MUST BE PAID THROUGH THE ACS WEBSTORE. IN ADDITION, there is an online form which must be filled out by 3:30 pm on September 14.
Trip Application for Catalina hard copy (7th): Trip dates: November 7-9/Cost $515. All applications due by 4:00 pm on September 12. No late applications will be accepted. Applications will be available in the Counseling Office - they will be turned in there as well. FEES MUST BE PAID THROUGH THE ACS WEBSTORE
Trip Application for Astrocamp hard copy (6th): Trip dates: March 15-17/Cost $500. All applications can be picked up starting on February 14th and are due by 4:00 pm on February 17th. No late applications will be accepted. Applications will be available at the Attendance Office window - they will be turned in to the box in at the Attendance Office window. FEES MUST BE PAID THROUGH THE ACS WEBSTORE
(Students who do not qualify for Honor Society or CJSF will have their trip payments & applications returned.)
