Classroom Expectations
Dear Families & Students,
Welcome to an exciting year in 5th grade! As we begin this journey together, I’d like to share the expectations we will be using in our classroom to help create a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for every student.
In 5th grade, students are encouraged to become more independent, take responsibility for their learning, and work cooperatively with others. These expectations are designed to support both academic growth and positive social behavior.
Our 5th Grade Expectations:
1. Be Respectful
Listen when others are speaking
Use kind words and actions
Follow directions the first time
Respect personal space and property
2. Be Responsible
Be prepared for class with materials and homework
Take care of personal and school property
Use time wisely and stay on task
Put forth your best effort
3. Be Safe
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
Walk calmly and quietly in the classroom and hallways
Use materials appropriately
Follow school safety rules
4. Be a Problem Solver
Ask for help when needed
Try different strategies before giving up
Work through conflicts peacefully
Take ownership of your choices
5. Be a Team Player
Collaborate respectfully with classmates
Offer help and encouragement
Value others’ ideas and contributions
Celebrate the successes of others
These expectations will be consistently reinforced through class discussions, modeling, and positive reinforcement. Students will also be guided in reflecting on their behavior and making better choices when needed.
Thank you for your partnership in helping your child succeed. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Warmly,
Mrs. Carlis
