Description: Interact is an international organization of service and social club that fosters leadership, responsible citizenship, and promotes understanding and peace. The Skylands Rotary Club provides guidance and inspiration but the Interact Club is self governed and self-supporting. The club participates in various community service events throughout the year.

Camp Merry Heart: A camp dedicated to giving people of all ages with disabilities an opportunity to live, learn, work and play with dignity, equality and independence. Interact members cleaned out cabins, spread mulch, painted walls, assembled new bunk beds and cleared away debris from the camp site.

Project Self-Sufficiency Toy Shop: Members of the Interact volunteer their time organizing and preparing the “Toy Shop” for families.

Special Olympics: Members of the club volunteered at Skylands Ice Arena to assist athletes who competed in speed skating competitions.

Food Bank of NJ: Club members sorted, cleaned and prepared donated items for distribution to local soup kitchens, families and shelters.

Food Drive: An annual school wide event to collect food donations for local families in need.

Note in the Coat Project: Interact collects used and new coats to be donated to the Holiday Toy Shop which is open to families in need throughout the Sussex County Area to help make their holidays a little brighter! Each member writes a note of inspiration for the coats.

Baking Event: Baked goods are donated to Trinity Church’s Faith Kitchen which serves over 90 people a day.

Along the way, Interact members develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. Through their service activities, Interact members learn the importance of:

• Developing leadership skills and personal integrity.

• Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others.

• Understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work.
