Leeds City Council should increase taxi licence regulations to make taxis safer for people to use

Passed: March 2022 (17th)

What do you want/Why do you want it?

Many students (particularly women and marginalised students) have experienced harassment while using taxis in Leeds. The City Council has the authority to apply a wide range of restrictions through licensing. In particular, they should; make any company that wishes to operate taxis in Leeds have a Chief Safety Officer who produces and quarterly Safety Report that details statistics about harassment in their vehicles and what they’re doing to reduce harassment, improve the accessibility of reporting incidents, provide more information to students about what is acceptable behaviour in a taxi (both from drivers and passengers).

This would improve the safety of students in Leeds and reduce rates of harassment
