The new Lunenburg Middle-High School Library Media Center opened in August 2016 and offers students and faculty an atmosphere conducive to learning. Space and resources are available to conduct individual research, to work quietly with a friend or small group, or to read for personal enjoyment.
Mrs. Vallee spent the summer and early fall of 2016 transforming the beautiful empty space into a vibrant place enjoyed by middle and high school students and teachers alike. The challenge was to design a welcoming and organized space shared by all students in grades 6-12. The book collections are divided into a middle school section and high school section, with a reference section separating the two fiction collections. These collections are accessible via the Follett Destiny automated catalog.
Middle school fiction was placed near the front entrance to be immediately visible and high school fiction starts near the comfortable reading chairs. Both nonfiction and fiction collections continue to be updated to support curriculum and provide great free reading choices. With the help of amazing student assistants, new books are being processed and checked out to excited students.
The middle school fiction books have been organized into genres, complete with color-coded labels, to make finding a great book easier. The high school fiction collection has been partially labeled with color-coded genre labels, but books remains in author order. A project organizing the books into labeled series is ongoing.
High school students taking online courses enjoy working in the Media Cafe, middle and high school classes use the Media Classroom and library nooks for research and projects, and all students enjoy the room of comfy chairs. Mrs. Vallee is the GSuite for Education administrator for the district, and frequently supports teachers integrating Google Classroom and other new technology into their classrooms, assists students adapting to Chromebooks and cloud printing, and helps students, teachers and staff searching for great books to read or resources for projects.
The Lunenburg Middle-High School Library Media Center also offers magazines and access to local newspapers. Collections of curriculum-related DVDs, audiobooks, ebooks, and an almost complete collection of school yearbooks dating back to 1936 are also available.
In addition to being a resource for all GSuite-related questions, the media center contains a cart of 28 Chromebooks, a bank of Windows laptops, Hovercams available for media projects, cloud printers, a photocopier/scanner, and six interactive projector/whiteboards.
Lunenburg Middle School and Lunenburg High School faculty are encouraged to use the Library Media Center to design class projects that utilize the extensive print and online resources.
Students and teachers are always welcome to use the library to find help with research, create a multimedia project, find a great book, get help with Chromebooks and lots of other technology, access the cloud printers, or just find a peaceful place to work.
