Citations & Works Cited: MyBib.com

Start with:  

• Basic Search on 1930s or Great Depression - the predictive features gives you a topic landing page for both 

Then:

• Select a type of content from the links across the top of the first search results page.  For this research, try Reference and Biographies, you can also grab pictures to use for your presentation from Images 

Next:

• Narrow the results based on the subtopics from your handout using the ”FILTER YOUR RESULTS”  buttons for Subjects (gives you a list of added search terms - the new list of articles will be mainly about the selected subject) or Search Within (type in your own added search term - the new list of articles will mention the added search term, but may be mainly about something else). 

Looking at your search results:

• Each result includes details that can help you decide if it’s worth a look, including the title of the article, the name of the original source, document type, and word count 

Looking at individual sources:

• Use Ctrl + f in longer sources to find relevant information

• If it’s good, save it to Google Drive (don’t just copy and paste a URL - please!!)

• Note the MLA format citation embedded at the bottom of the page - this will save to Google Drive, too

• Use the “Explore” and “Related Subjects” tools on the right side of the page to find similar sources

Creating a works cited list:

• The easy way: MyBib.com

• Using a source that you have already saved to Google Drive, copy the citation that appears at the end of the article under the words "Source Citation":

• Start a new project in MyBib and click on the green "Add a Citation" button

• Choose the "More" tab all the way on the right

• Then choose "Write/Paste Citation" from the lower right corner

• Paste your database article citation in the box labeled "Citation" and then click the "Save" button

• Once you have added all of your citations, create your works cited document by clicking "Download" and choosing "Google Drive"

In-Text Citations:

• To cite information in your presentation slides, use the first word or words of the citation in parentheses to indicate which source your info came from.  Example:

You include the following info from the source listed above in a slide:
