Director of Orchestras
Mrs. Laura Flanagan, a graduate of Texas Tech University, has been the Director of Orchestras at Coronado HS in Lubbock, Texas since 2012. She has taught in Lubbock ISD schools for 14 years, holding positions at Coronado HS and Irons and Atkins middle schools. In addition to orchestra courses, Mrs. Flanagan also teaches AP Music Theory and is a joint sponsor of the Coronado High School Texas Future Music Educators.
Mrs. Flanagan is active in TMEA Region 16 and the Lubbock community. She oversees the Coronado feeder system for LISD orchestras, has served as the TMEA Region 16 Orchestra Division Chair, volunteered her time to be the Coordinator for the Lubbock ISD/Mark Wood Collaboration and Performance, and along with with the Coronado Band and Choir, hosts many events on her campus including Region 16 UIL Solo/Ensemble, Concert & Sight-reading, and many others. She is currently on the editorial committee for the American String Teacher Association Journal. Previously, she served as a board member for the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock. In 2007, she was named a Teacher You Can Count On by KCBD, Lubbock, TX.
Mrs. Flanagan is an active teacher and clinician during the summer months as well. She has performed and taught at West Texas A&M University Chamber Music Strings Camp in Canyon, Texas; ZoukFest World Music Camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Cascadia Irish Music Week, on Whidbey Island, Washington. She also co-organized and co-presented at an Irish Fiddle Workshop with in 2013 with Eileen Sullivan which was held at the New Mexico Musical Heritage Shop. Additionally, she began courses towards a Masters in Music Education at Texas Tech University in the Summer of 2017.
She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Tech University in Music Education. While at Texas Tech she played the String Bass in the Texas Tech Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gary Lewis, sang and played violin with the Texas Tech Collegium Musicum under the direction of Dr. Angela Mariani, and played String Bass and Violin with the New Music Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Steven Paxton. She was also a teaching assistant with the TTU String Project and was a student assistant in the School of Music Publicity Office.
