Congratulations to all our Olympians returning home! These elite athletes give their all to our community as well. Women’s snowboard slopestyle gold medalist, Jamie Anderson frequently partners with Sierra-at-Tahoe and LTUSD to sponsor local students with an annual Give Back with Love Sponsorship where less fortunate students in the community have a chance to experience what it is like to be a sponsored athlete for a season. Additionally, Women’s freeskiing halfpipe gold medalist, Maddie Bowman, hosts an annual “Ski with Maddie Day” where up and coming skiers in Sierra’s Rippers program have the chance to ski with Maddie and receive expert tips from an Olympic athlete.

Stoneman Douglas High School

Our hearts go out to the victims of the inconceivable act of violence at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. We are deeply saddened for the senseless loss of so many precious lives. In the wake of this tragedy, the District would like to ensure families and staff that District leadership, in partnership with local law enforcement, continues to make school safety a top priority. District Administration is seeking Board approval at the March 13 Board Meeting to implement additional safety and security measures, which have been identified as needing immediate action for increased security at all school sites. Our deepest condolences go out to all those coping with the tragedies that have occurred at our nation’s school and we are strong in our commitment to band together as a community to implement increased preventative measures. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.

Reports show that American students miss 51 million hours of school every year because of oral health problems. And students who are absent miss critical instruction time—especially in early grades where reading skills are an important focus and the building blocks of future learning. And students who have experienced recent oral health pain are four times more likely to have lower grade point averages than their counterparts who have not.

Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation

Please take a moment to thank a LTEF Member when you see them in our community!

The diligent work of the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation (LTEF) has allowed our students to participate in an multitude of educational and enrichment programs that would have been otherwise unavailable to our schools. For nearly 30 years, the LTEF has operated as a volunteer-lead non-profit organization whose driving purpose is to "support the educational programs and needs of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. " This is done through a fall and spring grant request process in which LTEF provides $40,000 to $60,000 each year to enrichment grants. Individual and business donations are the sole source for the LTEF fund. If you are interested in learning more or wish to donate, please visit the Foundation at http://www.ltedf.org/.

You can find image and posts here each issue that feature some of the 24 programs that received a total of $69,552.40 in LTEF grants this year!
