Tryout Information
Tryouts begin August 20th, 2026 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
Please be sure to have Final Forms current with all the information listed above before arrival to tryouts.
What to bring:
Clothes appropriate for tryouts
Tennis shoes
Knee pads
Water bottle
General Information:
Tryouts are for 2026-27 PLMS 7th and 8th grade students.
Tryouts will be held August 20 to August 24, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
Players should arrived dressed and ready to warm up promptly at 3:30 pm each day.
PLMS has three Volleyball teams: A, B and C. Tryouts will determine who makes the team as a whole. Individual team assignments will be assessed before the first game of the season.
2026 Schedule
This is a list of some of the things that we will be doing during tryouts and during the season. These are things for you to work on during the summer months to help prepare yourself for tryouts.
Jog for 5 minutes without stopping
Jumping Jacks 50
Push ups 20
Crunches 50
Squat jumps 20
Plank 30 seconds
Butt Kickers 30
Wall Jumps 30
Wall Sits 30 seconds
Any quick feet drills you can think of
Passing Drills - can you pass to a target consistently
Serving Drills- can you consistently get the ball over and in, if you are consistent with underhand work on overhand
Hitting Drills- Can you consistently hit the ball over and in
Setting Drills- do you have the basics of setting, can you set to the left, middle and back
Reaction Time drills- you have to be able to react to the ball
Consistency is a huge part of a great volleyball player work on drills at home that help you to get the ball to the target consistently and move that target around.
To make the team here are some of the things we will be looking for during tryouts
Positive Attitude
Help with shagging balls and putting away nets
Get along well with teammates, peers and staff
Do you take directions well, will you try new ideas- are you willing to learn?
Serving consistently
Physical fitness- can you finish all conditioning drills (jogs, sprints, wall sits, push ups, sit ups.........)
Volleyball skills - pass consistently, move your feet
Can you be at all practices and tournaments? (IF you play other sports you can still tryout but volleyball needs to be the priority, if there are conflicts please let the coaches know ASAP)
