Overview:  Students will connect a national/global news issue to its local impact 

Purpose:  Students will strengthen their skills in independent research and civic awareness, becoming more informed participants in their community.

Process Steps:  

1. Create a Google Document in your Contemporary Issues Share Folder titled: "Last Name - Assignment 4"

2. At the top of the Google Document, place the title "Assignment 4 - Issue in My Backyard."

3. Students will select one current national or global issue.

4. Students will investigate how this issue affects Missouri or their own community (this can also include their school)

5. Students will write a paragraph (minimum of 200 words) about the background of the event

6. Students will then write a paragraph (minimum of 200 words) about how this event affects Missouri or their own community

7. Students will then write at least 400 words total. (40 points)
