LSM Tigershark Rod Jacob A. Flores of Grade 7 - St. Leopold of Castelnuovo splashed his way to the podium on September 21, 2025, at the HYDRAXIS: 129th CNLCSCA (Central Northern Luzon Cordillera Swimming Coaches Association) Swim Series, held in New Clark City Aquatic Center, Tarlac, taking home a gold medal, two silver medals, and two fourth-place finishes.
Under the leadership of the Tigershark’s coach, Mr. Christopher “Chris” Dela Cruz, Master Flores took home the gold medal for the 100-meter Breaststroke in the Class B Division. Not only this, but this Tigershark also bagged two silver medals for the 50-meter Breaststroke in the Class B Division, 50-meter Freestyle in the Class C Division, and two fourth-place finishes in the 100-meter Freestyle and 50-meter Backstroke. His performance during this meet is evidence of his fierce, competitive spirit.
With his remarkable composure and skill, Flores came out as one of the top competitors among the best swimmers in his age group. Being only in the seventh grade, he has already demonstrated athletic excellence, showcasing his potential to reach greater heights in future meets. Flores’ results prove himself as one of LSM’s most promising young athletes.
In an interview, Flores shared that his motivation as a swimmer is driven by the people around him. When asked about the driving factors behind his training and determination, he mentioned, “my parents, my swimming team, especially my coach, Chris Dela Cruz.” Despite his accomplishments, he shows humility by crediting those who have supported and inspired him. However, his efforts are not solely driven by competition with other aspiring athletes or the desire to impress the audience, but are also rooted in his pursuit of self-improvement. “Even if I don’t get the medal, that’s okay,” he said. “At least I beat my personal [time].”
Following this swim meet, the Tigershark continues to aim high for development. When asked about his goals moving forward, he stated that he wants to become stronger both physically and mentally, striving to surpass his personal bests as a swimmer. Beyond the pool, Flores aims to strengthen his character, guided by humility and perseverance — values that define him as both an athlete and a true Lourdesian.
