The Lourdes School of Mandaluyong Griffins Volleyball Team inched their way to victory against Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati (DBTI) Greywolves with a set score of 2–1 in the Private Schools Athletic Division Association League (PRADA) earlier today, October 4, 2025, at Xavier School, San Juan City. This marked the Griffins’ first win of the school year, with set scores of 25–23, 17–25, and 25–23.
Both teams traded points in a tense opening set, neither side willing to back down, resulting in a stalemate. The scores remained close until the Griffins finally found a breakthrough around the 10–10 mark, as players Master Carlos Jossiah J. Jallorina and Kenneth Bradley D. Fariñas stepped up at the service line to rack up crucial points. The Greywolves managed to recalibrate and reset, but the Griffins closed out the first set with a score of 25–23 with the sharp placing of team captain Master Justine Gabriel A. Cadapan.
The Griffins marched onto the second set with a roster change, shifting Master Jallorina from opposite hitter to setter in place of Master Drei Nathan S. Macaya, and bringing in Master Gari Miguel Antonio J. Sanchez as the new opposite. The team once again started strong, producing another tight exchange of points. Connections between setter and spiker were evident as Masters Cadapan and Sanchez racked up points under Master Jallorina’s orchestration. Master Sanchez led the charge, scoring point after point and attacking from all areas of the court. Crucial blocks by Master James Michael D. Almasa and steady coverage by Master Emmanuel S. De Jesus anchored the Griffins’ defense. However, persistent serves and a change of pace from the DBTI Greywolves made it a tough set, with the Griffins ultimately falling short, 17–25.
With the match tied at one set apiece, everything came down to the final frame. The Griffins regrouped for a decisive third, determined not to let the game slip away.
The Griffins, led by Master Sanchez, started to pile up early points. Team captain Cadapan’s smart ball placement also broke down the Greywolves’ defense. The Greywolves, however, started strong as well, with their open hitters and middles striking the ball with precision and smart placements, which ultimately put them ahead in the first half of the set, 9–13. “One stop!” shouted team captain Master Cadapan, urging everyone to stay calm and earn a breakpoint. The breakpoint eventually came, allowing Master Fariñas to return to the service line and pile up more points. Masters Cadapan, Jallorina, and Sanchez anchored the coverage of both the front and backlines, allowing the Griffins to push further. The Greywolves earned a breakpoint, but the Griffins answered quickly, sending Jallorina to the service line. His heavy serves allowed the Griffins to extend their lead to 23–18. The Greywolves made a crucial breakpoint and substituted a heavy server who helped them catch up. However, the Griffins stayed focused and closed out the set—and the match—with a score of 25–23. Masters Sanchez and Cadapan powered the Griffins’ offense with more than 9 points, while Masters Fariñas and Jallorina held steady at the service line to keep the pressure on DBTI.
The Head Coach Michael Franks M. Pammit noted the volleyball team’s visible progress commending everyone for their hardwork for their first win. However, he emphasized that many adjustments still need to be made.
When asked about the team’s mindset, Team Captain Master Cadapan said, “I knew that losing was not an option. We just needed to fix our mindset and play the way we did in training.” Dedication, he emphasized, was the team’s driving force.
