The Start of A Semester: A Brand New Day for LSM
With every choice comes great responsibility. Every great enterprise begins with a bold vision, a strategic pivot, and a leap of faith. For one of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong’s newest teachers, Mr. Jhed Garvie Domingo, the journey into the academic world wasn’t just a career switch, it launched him into a brand new day.
The Attainment: Choosing LSM
In the vast talent market of education, a person has numerous options. With offers from schools such as LSGH, NU, and STI, our entrepreneur teacher, Mr. Jed Garvi Domingo had to evaluate multiple schools. But which of these would he choose?
Following a successful demo pitch from Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, and some words of encouragement from TLE Coordinator, Mr. Arnel Manuel “Hintayin mo nalang ito, sana ikaw makukuha ko”— combined with a colleague’s recommendation, sealed the deal for Sir Jed’s choice of school. After many months of waiting for an announcement, he got it and officially became a teacher of LSM; the adventure finally began.
School Culture: Onboarding Lourdes School of Mandaluyong
Anyone would feel uneasy stepping into a new environment. You don’t know who you’re going to meet, what your colleagues will be like, and especially what your students will be like. But as an entrepreneur adaptability is key.
“Medyo mahirap, there’s a lot of adjustments na kailangang natin gawin,” Sir Jed admits.
However, the climate of LSM proved to be supportive and a highly welcoming workspace. Thanks to a welcoming team-building initiative, Sir Jed along with his friend Sir Rafa, was able to feel welcomed and accommodated in the school’s faculty. From daily doses of the phrases such as “kaya mo yan”, the integration into the new environment felt seamless. Even the consumers, the students, welcomed the young entrepreneur Sir Jed as their business teacher, making every class feel alive.
Classroom Without Walls: Beyond the Balance Sheet
When asked if business education is an essential asset to have, people might say no because to some, business is only important in companies and selling. But for Sir Jed, the answer is a resounding yes.
In our current world, business does not conform to a single corner of the market. It isn’t just about making a sale; it’s a cross-functional ecosystem encompassing marketing, accounting, human resources, and operations. Wherever you pivot in the corporate ladder, business will always be there. It still is a high-yielding skill.
“It’s not just about selling goods and services or about how to market your product, it consists of many fields. It just depends on where you go,” Sir Jed explained.
The Inspiration: Merging Two Passions
When you have two conflicting passions you may face a crossroad. The original business plan for Sir Jed pointed towards Business Administration because it was his passion. But growing up in a legacy lineage of educators conflicted with that idea.
Instead of a hostile takeover of family expectations, Sir Jed had other plans: Why not teach business?
”I just told myself ‘sige, pagbigyan ko sila’ and para hindi mawala ang pagmamahal ko sa business; tinuturo ko ang business” Sir Jed stated.
By stepping into the classroom, both passions found mutual growth. The school became the market, and teaching became the vehicle to stay deeply connected to the world of business. And the long-term strategic plan doesn’t stop here. Once Sir Jed obtains his Masters degree and a brief market consolidation period passes (he will take a break obviously), the final step will be unlocked: a road to obtaining a PhD in Business Administration.
Quality and Quantity Control: The De-Stress Strategy
Even top-tier CEOs and executives need downtime to optimize performance. For our entrepreneur and business mentor, business research never truly stops—even during leisure hours, Sir Jed enjoys indulging himself with feeds of business strategies and industry topics.
When the market volatility spikes and stress levels peak, (when school gets overwhelming) the executive team deploys its ultimate stress-relief asset: food. Driven by the saying, “food is life”, Sir Jed believes that the ultimate cure for a tough quarter is food. From street-food staples like fishballs, kikiam, junk food, you name it.
The Fourth Quarter: Business Advice
As the current school year trades actively, our young entrepreneur leaves his consumers with a blueprint for success.
Sir Jed advised his students, “Study hard and enjoy learning, dapat masaya tayo sa klase and never forget to be responsible. Respect din. Although nag-eenjoy kami sa klase, wag ninyong kalimutan ang respeto sa isa’t-isa”
With a supportive community, a solid foundational strategy, and a passion for growth, this venture at LSM is poised for a record-breaking fiscal year (it’s basically going to be a good year).
