J. Wallace James Elementary

Arts and Technology Academy

Weekly Update & Read Aloud with Dr. Downs

Thursday, August 22nd

Hello everyone! Today was our 2nd 1st day of school. Yes, I know it sounds a little strange but in fact, it was the first day of school for our entire student body. Today we welcome all of Pre-K and Kindergarten to J. Wallace James and what a day it was. Our Pre-K and Kindergartners were learning their way around our school, experiencing new things, and meeting new friends. It was a successful day!

This past week I visited many classrooms and saw some great teaching and learning. Also, our Arts department has finalized their auditions and students started attending their arts pathways this week. It is amazing what our students are exposed to at J. Wallace James!

We also are continuing to improve our car rider line. This has been challenging in the afternoon and we are appreciative of your patience with this process. Today we beat our time from yesterday and we had about 100 more students than yesterday due to Kindergarten and Pre-K attending today. We will continue to improve this process. Please have your yellow car rider tags visible so we can expedite this process.

Reminder that picture day is Monday, August 26th. Students may wear either their uniform top or a school appropriate top of their choice with uniform bottoms. If you need anything from us please feel free to reach out to us at 337-521-7700. You may also email me at jodowns@gmail.com. We are here for you and your students.

Thank you for trusting us with your children; we will take care of them like they are our own. I will talk with you again next week.

Sincerly, Dr. Jon Downs, Principal
