Unit 2: Cajun Folktales

Unit goal: Students read literary and informational texts to learn how storytelling can be entertaining as well as educational. Students develop an understanding of Louisiana history and culture as well as character and theme development. Students express their understanding by writing stories modeled after the anchor and related texts using information gained about Louisiana.

In this unit, the students will read various stories and learn the elements of folktales to form an opinion about all of the tricksters being rabbits!

Below are several articles that can be used to practice the skills and standards that are being taught in class. The graphic organizers are directly from the Guidebook curriculum and can be adapted to the text provided.

Use these graphic organizers to help guide your discussions with your child during and after reading the articles. These tools are used in the classroom with the text that is embedded into the curriculum. Using them at home will help build their knowledge of the material, which will greatly increase their engagement and ability to focus on the actual skills being taught.
