Leicester Integrated Preschool
Leicester Integrated Preschool
Welcome to Preschool!
The Leicester Public School District offers an integrated preschool program on the ground floor of the Leicester Middle School building. The program is designed to meet the needs of children between the ages of three and five who may exhibit delays in one or more areas of development. The integrated preschool classroom model includes enrollment opportunities for students who do not require special education support, allowing our students with special needs to learn alongside typically developing peers.
The integrated preschool has a limited number of spaces each school year for typical peer models. Families with preschool-aged children (3+ on or before August 31st) who are fully toilet-trained and display developmentally appropriate speech/language, social, and play skills may apply for a space in the Integrated Preschool Program. Please see the Registration tab above for more information.
Integrated Preschool Program Overview
The main function of the Integrated Preschool Program is to provide special education programming and/or related services to students identified with a disability, per their Individual Education Plan (IEP). The program is enhanced by adding typically-developing peer models from our community to participate in the curriculum together. Instruction is delivered in a developmentally-appropriate manner and focuses on a variety of skill areas including: language, phonemic and phonological awareness, early literacy skills, gross and fine motor skills, math readiness, and social skills. We provide hands-on learning experiences, promote collaborative play and social interactions and foster critical thinking skills through problem solving activities. The curriculum, Tools of the Mind, is aligned with the Massachusetts Frameworks for Preschool, which focus on readiness skills for Kindergarten.
