There are many off-campus opportunities available for students during their junior & senior year.
See below for specifics on Area Career Center, Collegiate Nursing Academy, Educational Internship Program, Early College Academy, Network 53, Northland CAPS and Northland Career Center.
The Area Career Center (ACC) is located in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The ACC focuses on Career and Technical Education (CTE) that provides students with focused, active learning that prepares them for college and career opportunities. Programs at the ACC are designed to help students learn the necessary academic and employability skills to be successful after high school. A shadow is not required - but please come to the Counseling Center if you want to set one up.

CIPHER- Cybersecurity
CIPHER (Cyber Internship Program for High School Education and Readiness) is a partnership between William Jewell College and LPS. This program is designed to provide high school students with multiple market value assets (MVA) in cybersecurity. CIPHER provides a head start on the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to thrive in this critical and ever-evolving field, all before graduating high school.

The Collegiate Nursing Academy is an option for students in their senior year of high school who are interested in medicine and have a desire to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). This program is designed to provide students with a learning experience in healthcare that exposes participants to the nursing profession, the educational expectations and academic rigor expected of those who plan to enter the nursing field, clinical experience, and the necessary preparation to earn the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.

This college level course is intended for seniors who are considering pursuing teaching as a profession. Students will be assigned a classroom in the district in order to gain teaching experience as they assist the mentor teacher with classroom preparation, tutoring, small group learning activities, and whole group instruction. Students will also engage in pedagogical studies and instructional projects that explore classroom culture, literacy, theories of learning, and other educational issues. Strategies are aligned to local, state, and national standards for college and career readiness.Students will enroll in 1.0 credit of EIP Theory and Practice and 1.0 credit of EIP Field Experience.

This program allows high school juniors and seniors attending MCC-Maple Woods to take college classes in the mornings or afternoons on Maple Woods' campus. Students will get high school and college credits. If accepted, students can drive or take the bus to morning or afternoon college classes.

- Complete both the ECA Google Form & MCC application for enrollment.
- Submit ACT or Accuplacer scores to MCC.
- If selected for the program, students must "Accept" or "Decline" the invitation.
- NOTE:: Due February 13th at 3:30. This program has a rolling admission. Once requirements are met, spots will fill up. Even though deadline was met, the program may be full.

Network53 is a community effort created to strengthen the connection between education and industry for the benefit of all students. It is a partnership between parents, community members, educators, and area businesses who support experiential learning for students through internships, mentoring, and other career awareness activities. Students are mentored by employers in a professional setting to help teach skills that are needed for their future. Students receive their high school credit and also the option for college credit. Seniors will be given first consideration in the placement process.

If accepted, your counselor will work with you to remove 2 elective classes to fit the internship class in your schedule.

- Students have a 90% attendance.
- Students are in good standing in their high school and on track to graduate.

- Students have identified an interest area that they want to explore.
- Students have great attendance and follow through.
- Students have a growth-mindset approach (may not be placed in their specific interest area).
- Students can communicate effectively, manage their time, and take on tasks independently.

NCAPS is revolutionizing high school education through a profession-based educational model, created in partnership with Cerner, Ford, Magna, and Liberty and NKC Hospitals. Students gain experience working with real businesses, assisting and learning through meaningful projects.
