Hello there! I'm Erik Petersen and I am a part-time adjunct teacher with a CTE credential for the EPIC Campus in the Construction Trades Pathway as well as a small business owner. Above all, I prioritize faith and family, cherishing the joy of being happily married for nearly two decades and being a proud father to two incredible children.
I've always enjoyed building things and solving problem -- whether it was Lego sets, ad hoc wooden go-carts as a kid, or taking RC cars or other household items things apart and then rebuilding them. Through my career I found I love building other things, from assembling teams, processes, to building commercial tenant improvements and homes. I credit my love for building and construction to my parents' "learn as much as you can" attitude and my father's hands-on approach to fixing and installing equipment around the house.
After graduating high school I spent one semester at community college before deciding I needed to grow up and get some life experience. So I joined the US Army and learned a lot about myself, life, teamwork and service to something greater than myself. I returned to academics and graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree while serving in the Army National Guard and working various part time jobs.
Today, with more than twenty years working, I've built career experiences with two residential homebuilding companies, managing commercial construction tenant improvements for a global Fortune 150 corporation and leading a commercial construction project management division in Colorado for an international real estate consulting firm.
Throughout my life, I've nurtured a growth mindset and a passion for the construction industry, teamwork and teaching and encouraging people. When I'm not immersed in my work, teaching or spending time with family, you may find me volunteering at my church, or being active. You can often spot me spectating at my son's football games or cheering on my daughter on the pitch at her soccer matches. Beyond that, I enjoy seeing live music and spending time outdoors, whether camping, skiing, traveling, fly fishing, or surfing.
