Assessment
Questions to ask ourselves when looking at assessing students who already understand the material and have been given different enrichment activities to enhance and extend their learning:
How will students demonstrate growth beyond proficiency?
What evidence will show that learning has been extended?
Am I assessing higher-order thinking skills, not just content knowledge?
Have we established clear criteria for advanced learning outcomes?
What enrichment activity do we plan on using and how do we plan to assess their extended learning?
Characteristics of Effective Enrichment Assessments - Visit Enrichment Assessments for more information and strategies.
Effective assessments should:
Measure depth of understanding rather than memorization.
Allow multiple ways for students to demonstrate learning.
Include opportunities for self-reflections and goal setting.
Use authentic, real-world tasks whenever possible.
Assess both the process and the final product.
Include clear rubrics focused on higher-order skills.
