Mrs. Voyles' Class

Welcome to our Classroom

I’m so excited about our school year. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of the students and parents this year. It’s such a blessing to have the opportunity to be a part of your lives as your 5th grade teacher. It’s my goal for everyone to have a wonderful year of making new friendships, respecting others, and having fun learning and expanding our minds. All of my lessons are standards based to ensure that my students get what they need for 5th grade instruction while adding more challenging components to encourage independent thinking and promote problem solving skills.

Our Classroom

Our classroom is designed to be a comfortable and challenging learning environment. It is important that children feel free to express their ideas, concerns, and also to celebrate their successes. I love to hear what the children have to say about a topic or a place. It adds so much to our lesson for the class to hear an account of one child’s experience. I believe that all children can learn in a safe and loving environment. I stress the importance of treating others like you want to be treated. It’s my responsibility to provide a consistent and stable classroom for the children. I take that responsibility seriously and truly enjoy the students who are entrusted to me.

Homework:

The students will record their homework daily in their HES agenda. Parents, please check their completed assignment and initial the box to let me know that their homework is completed and correct. Thanks

Grading Policy:

Please see the Lowndes County Handbook for grading policies. As for our classroom, we abide by the county policy and the students' graded papers will be sent home each Friday in our Communication folders. Parents, please sign the folder to let me know that you have seen their work and you may keep their papers at home. The folders need to be returned the following school day. Thank you for being a part of your child's educational successes.

Students

I expect all students to do their best. Their work may not always be perfect, but if they've done their best I'm proud of them and they should be proud of themselves too. Students are expected to put forth their best effort at all times and treat others with respect. Also it's important for students to take responsibility for their actions. We all make mistakes and hopefully we learn from them which makes us learn and grow throughout the year.

I love teaching elementary school!!! I’ve been teaching for 25 years and it has been amazing. My greatest sense of achievement comes when I see a student become confident in his or her ability to succeed, and then exceed the expectations they set for themselves.

On a personal note, I’m married to Greg Voyles and we have two children. Life is busy at the Voyles’ house, but that’s what keeps life interesting. Children (whether my own two at home or the 20 something in my classroom) are our greatest assets and they are our future. I'm thrilled to be your teacher this year!!!!!
