Speaking and Language

ALL ABOUT ME

My tenure into the realm of speech - language services began long before my college days . My interest was peaked by a statement that I heard my mom say regarding my younger brother 'If he could only learn how to talk'. You see my brother was diagnosed with a seizure disorder when he was less than a year old. He has had grand mal seizures his entire life ,therefore ,setting the stage for mental and some physical disabilities.

Once in High school , I used the services of a guidance counselor and dear friend to assist me with researching jobs that would lend assistance to individuals like my brother. One of the many clubs in which I participated in pointed me in the right direction SAGE (Student Association of Georgia Educators) . At one of our meetings a SLP was the speaker and as they say the rest is history.

I have three children who are indeed the joy of my life. We have two dogs a Shepherd/Roti mix and an Airedale terrier My theocratic pursuits keep me grounded. My friends, workmates , and active parents assist with all that encompasses my daily activities in and out of the classroom .

My favorite sports team is the Dallas Cowboys ask anyone who knows me and they can attest to this.

The 2015 -2016 school term will mark my 26 year working with students who present with deficits in one or more area of Speech - Language skills.

Speech - Language skills span a broad range of skill areas in the academic setting some of which are : Articulation , Receptive and Expressive Language , Voice, Fluency, Phonemic Awareness, Phonological Processes, Oral Motor skills and Pragmatics.

I have had the privilege of seeing progress with speech - language skills in my many students over the course of my career. Many impressions of young boys and girls have left imprints on my heart of success to varying degrees. I will continue to add memories to the album of my success as a school Speech - Language Pathologist.
