Mrs. Hamel's 8th Grade ELA
Meet Mrs. Hamel
Welcome to 8th grade English language arts! My name is Alison Hamel. This year is my eighth year teaching 8th grade ELA at PGM and my ninth year working for Lowndes County Schools. I love what I do!
I was born and raised in Valdosta, GA and attended Lowndes County Schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade. I am definitely a true Viking fan!
I graduated from the University of Florida with bachelor's degrees in English and Classical Studies and from Valdosta State University with a master's degree in Secondary English Education.
I am married. My husband and I have a cat named Keats (after my favorite poet), a cat named Flea, and a dog named Cookie.
I love reading, listening to music, drinking coffee, watching Viking and Gator football, and spending time with my fabulous family and friends.
Literary Focus: Informational
Writing Focus: Argumentative
Language Focus: eliminating fragments and run-ons, using punctuation correctly, identifying how words are functioning in sentences, MLA citations, active/passive voice

*The Advanced ELA curriculum differs from the regular curriculum in that it moves at a faster pace, allowing time for enrichment activities that extend learning. Content is more complex and higher-order thinking skills are emphasized.
