Chairman's Mid-season Report
Work behind the scenes by the committee is centred round trying to improve the playing an social facilities of the club. The essential short term project is to raise the standard of the outfield to promote better and more skilful batting and fielding to match the existing quality of the square. The more ambitious medium term plan remains to raise funds to build an improved pavilion which will replace the existing tea room which hasn’t quite achieved the expectations, due to insufficient space and continuous maintenance, in providing a focal point for match days and social occasions throughout the season.
We have made considerable steps forward in increasing the number and value of sponsorships which is key to providing the financial means to support upcoming funding grant applications which is enabling us to ensure that match day fees and subscriptions are kept at reasonable levels. We have changed our main sponsor which is now the Needle & Pin pub in the Rushes, the Landlord, Sean, has been delighted by the additional business that we have brought to his micro pub and has already indicated that he is looking to continue next season in a wider capacity.
Pre-season saw the first touring match for many years at NSG, it has certainly whetted our appetite and we are now actively seeking a likely club for us to send a touring team next season. Visiting clubs are commonly turning up in matching kit, be it training or playing tops and we have therefore taken the decision to source an Adidas ‘team wear’, the 1st Xl are certainly grasping the new kit and I hope that this will filter down to the other teams in the fullness of time.
Our efforts to improve the club can perhaps be judged on the quality of new players being attracted to the club and this year we have been able to welcome several who are now playing for the 1st Xl, which in turn increases competition for places which hasn’t always been the case in recent seasons, it will only improve the club and hopefully rewards will be reaped by promotion up the league in the next few seasons.
After a number of years of planning a new website for the club, we now have one fully up and running. Any feedback would be really useful, please contact myself or Alex Easton.
My thanks to the committee who work with me and are really making a difference in managing and improving our club.
