3rd XI Match Reports
LOCC vs Newtown Linford 3rd June 2017
Newtown's opening batsman scored an imperious 106 and was out in the 43rd over, so to only be set 203 was a redemption. Excellent bowling from Corrie and McCoy, with help in the crucial middle overs from Prasanth and S Taylor helped to keep the visitor's total down.
In response, a promising partnership of 50 between Taylor and Walker gave hope of at least pressing for a draw, but the home side ultimately were bowled out for 87 by a strong Linford side.
LOCC 3 vs Newbold Verdon 2 - 27.05.17
Outwoods 3rds fail to capitalise on Iain Corrie's excellent bowling
Winning the toss (take note Ian Parkes) Outwoods put Newbold Verdon into bat and reduced them to 31 for 6 after 12 overs with Iain Corrie taking all six wickets (five clean-bowled) in a great spell of swing bowling; Iain finishing with figures of 9-0-18-6. Once the ball lost its shine, however, the pitch offered little help to the Outwoods bowlers and batsman took advantage of any bad balls (there were quite a few!) and accelerated the scoring rate. A good catch on the boundary by the Chairman removed the remaining Newbold opener with the score on 120 but their tail-end youngsters played well and enabled Newbold to reach 161 before the last wicket fell in the 42 over. Danny Malpas making his Outwoods senior debut bowled well (6-0-28-0) as did Matt Morris (6-0-20-1).
The Outwoods' innings started as poorly as Newbold's with the first five wickets falling for only 32 runs. The lower order offered some resistance but only Matt Morris (16) and Christie McCoy (16) reached double figures as Outwoods were dismissed for 63 in the 25th over and a game that start so promisingly ended in a disappointing defeat.
