Lordswood Boys’ School Ofsted Outcome: Recognised as Meeting the Expected Standard in All Areas - February 2026

Lordswood Boys’ School is pleased to share the outcome of its recent Ofsted inspection, which took place on 3rd and 4th February 2026, and the final report is attached.

The inspection confirms that Lordswood Boys’ School has been judged to be meeting the expected standard in all areas, with safeguarding standards fully met.

Inspectors recognised that pupils feel happy, safe, and proud to be part of the school, and highlighted the strong progress being made, particularly for disadvantaged pupils, alongside improvements in attendance and the quality of education.

The school would like to take this opportunity to thank staff for their unwavering dedication, pupils for their positivity and commitment, and parents and carers for their continued support. This outcome reflects a collective effort across the whole school community.

Lordswood Boys’ School is a special place, and leaders are incredibly proud of what has been achieved together. The school remains ambitious for every child and will continue to build on this strong foundation to ensure all pupils thrive both academically and personally.

After 21 years at Lordswood Boys’ School, I will be leaving at the end of this half term. I have already shared this message with students, but I also wanted to take a moment to speak directly to our wider school community: parents and carers, staff, leaders, trustees, and governors.

This is not an easy moment for me. Lordswood Boys’ School has been a deeply important part of my life, and the journey here has been nothing short of extraordinary. I am incredibly proud of all that we have achieved together, and I leave with immense gratitude, pride, and confidence in the future of this school.

I am beginning an exciting new chapter in my life, moving abroad to California with my family for a new adventure. While this marks the end of my time here, it is also the beginning of something new for us as a family.

When I reflect on my time at LBS, I am filled with pride at what our students have achieved. This has been a true journey of unlocking potential and belief, shaped by the values of “Literacy Builds Success” a principle that has underpinned so much of our work and supported students to find confidence, voice, and ambition in their learning.

I have seen first-hand how students have grown, academically, personally, and socially. From improving outcomes and closing gaps, to raising aspirations and expanding opportunities, the achievements of our young people are something I will always be proud of. Every milestone reached, every barrier overcome, and every success celebrated reflects the true strength of this community.

To our students, I want to say how proud I am of you. You have shown resilience, determination, and character. I hope you continue to believe in yourselves and in what you can achieve.

To our staff, leaders, trustees, governors, and families, I want to offer my sincere and heartfelt thanks. Your commitment, care, and belief in this school have shaped every success we have achieved together.

Lordswood Boys’ School will always hold a very special place in my heart. I will always be cheering you on from afar, confident in the continued success of a school community that is strong, ambitious, and full of potential.

Dear Parents and careers,

Mrs Kang and I both joined Lordswood Boys’ School in 2005, and over the past 21 years we have shared a significant part of our professional lives in service of this community. We have been through a great deal together as a team, including moments that demanded resilience, courage and calm leadership, as well as periods of genuine progress that we can all take pride in. Throughout it all, the constant has been a shared belief that every boy deserves high expectations, strong care and a school that never gives up on him.

I want to place on record my sincere thanks to Mrs Kang for the skill, commitment and strength she has brought to Lordswood over many years. She has invested a huge amount of herself in this school, and her contribution has mattered, not only in outcomes and standards, but in the day-to-day work of leading people, supporting colleagues, and holding the line when the work has been at its toughest. It has been a privilege to work alongside her and to learn from the dedication she has shown to our pupils and families.

As we move through the transition ahead, we will communicate clearly and ensure continuity in leadership and standards, so that pupils’ education, wellbeing and safety remain front and centre. We will share further information in due course, including next steps for leadership and recruitment, and we appreciate the continued support of our parents and carers as we take the next steps together.

Y10 Students Inspired by Visit from Aston University Maths School

We were delighted to welcome a teacher from Aston University Maths School, who delivered an engaging and thought-provoking session to our Year 10 students.

The session provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience mathematics beyond the standard classroom curriculum. Through a series of challenging problems and activities, students were encouraged to think more deeply, apply their reasoning skills, and explore unfamiliar concepts with confidence.

The session also gave students an insight into the opportunities available at post-16 level, including the unique approach taken by specialist maths schools. This helped to raise aspirations and broaden students’ understanding of potential future pathways in mathematics and related fields.

We are extremely grateful to Aston University Maths School for their time and expertise. Opportunities like this play a crucial role in enriching our curriculum and inspiring the next generation of mathematicians.

Year 11 Show Strong Progress Following February Mock Results

Following the February mock examinations, Year 11 students received their results before the Easter break, marking an important milestone in their journey towards the final summer examinations. The outcomes reflected excellent progress across the year group, with the hard work, focus, and determination of students clearly paying off. As results were opened, there were many smiling faces and moments of real pride, with students visibly encouraged by the progress they had made.

These results provide powerful evidence of the potential within this cohort and what is possible in the final examinations ahead. They are not just a reflection of performance, but of effort, resilience, and a growing belief in what can be achieved. Staff were incredibly proud to see students respond with maturity and positivity, recognising both their successes and the areas where even greater progress can now be made.

As we move forward, the message is clear: this is the moment to step up. The foundations have been laid, and now is the time to build on them with even greater consistency, focus, and ambition in the final stretch. As one powerful reminder for this stage of the journey: “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”

Year 11 Final Summer Examinations & Revision Resources

The summer examination period runs from Wednesday 29th April to Wednesday 24th June. The full timetable has been released below. Punctuality and full preparation are essential for every exam. This is a key moment to step up your preparation, attend intervention, complete revision and leave no stone unturned. There are many rewards along the way, but the most important outcome is your final exam performance. We wish you every success in the weeks ahead.

Literacy Updates

Celebrating our Talented Young Writers

At Lordswood Publishing House, we are proud to celebrate the success of our young writers. Several students have been recognised by the Young Writers’ Association for their creativity and skill, with their work selected for publication in an upcoming anthology.

This week, the boys received their certificates, marking a fantastic achievement and a moment to celebrate their hard work.

A special mention goes to Wen, whose piece has already been published in the “I Have a Dream” anthology. His class enjoyed a reading of his work, sharing in his success and bringing his writing to life.

Well done to all of our talented writers. We look forward to seeing what they achieve next.

Safeguarding Provision

As the Summer term begins, many students will be enjoying the freedom that lighter evenings inevitably bring. Whether they are playing football in the local park or meeting up with friends it is important that they can do so safely. Discussing this openly with your son, negotiating rules, precautions and emergency plans, helps to keep young people safe whilst developing their confidence and independence.

The Summer term also brings GCSE exams for Year 11 and students may well be feeling more anxious than usual during this period, which is perfectly normal. Understanding how to manage this is important for students and parents alike and there is plenty of support and advice available.

Weekly Sports Round-Up & Schedule

⚽ Football Provision⚽

The Year 10 Football team hosted Bishop Challoner on Tuesday evening in the Birmingham Schools' Semi-Final. In what was a tight affair, both Schools pushed each other which contributed to a fantastic game in terms of competitiveness. Bishop Challoner ran out the eventual 3-1 winners, the Lordswood students competed right until the final whistle and were a credit to the School.

The Year 8 team travelled to Harborne last night for a friendly fixture as they continued their preparations for their upcoming Cup Final. Mr Badu's team looked to refine their tactical approach to games by using this fixture. The team have really progressed with their tactical understanding and game knowledge, credit must go to Mr Badu for all of the work he has done with this group. The team ran out 2-1 winners which is their 12th victory of the season. Cup Final details will be shared when they are released.

Lordswood Music Unite Day 🎶

At the end of last half term, we were delighted to host our Lordswood Music Unite Day . A truly memorable and inspiring event! Students from Lordswood Girls’ School joined our own for a collaborative composition workshop, bringing together creativity, energy, and teamwork.

In just three hours, students worked under expert guidance to create an original “Lordswood Unite” song. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as ideas were shared, talents combined, and confidence grew throughout the session.

It was fantastic to see such collaboration between the schools, and we are incredibly proud of the music our students created together. A brilliant celebration of creativity and unity!

There is lots on offer in the music department and continue to encourage students to get involved and take part this half term.

Celebrating Vaisakhi: A Message of Joy to Our Families

At Lordswood Boys’ School, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to all our students, families, and staff who were celebrating Vaisakhi.

Vaisakhi is a special time of joy, reflection, and renewal, marking new beginnings and the importance of community, faith, and hope. It is a celebration that reminds us of the values of unity, service, and gratitude.

We are proud of the rich diversity within our school community, which strengthens our identity and enriches the experiences of all our pupils. Celebrations such as Vaisakhi help us to learn from one another and appreciate the traditions that shape who we are. On behalf of the school, we wish everyone celebrating a peaceful and blessed Vaisakhi.

As we begin the new half term, we look forward to another exciting period ahead. There is already a strong sense of momentum across the school with Year 11 revision and with learning across all year groups, with a wide range of extra-curricular activities underway and many more planned in the weeks to come. From academic focus to enrichment opportunities, students are being encouraged to get fully involved and make the most of everything on offer.

This half term brings a key focus on continued progress, particularly for our Year 11 students, who are now entering the final stages of their preparation for examinations. A variety of revision resources, support sessions, and targeted guidance have been shared to help them stay on track and make the most of this crucial time. Across the school, we also celebrate the many opportunities taking place, reflecting the energy, commitment and ambition of our students and staff.
